Our agenda is ambitious – working across two Universities in different states and establishing an agenda on social determinants of health in a world where the health imagination is still firmly wedded to medical and behavioural solutions.
We have made some steps towards this agenda through commencing a number of new research projects that are multidisciplinary such as the study of the impact of the closure of an automotive manufacturing plant and an Indigenous location and health project.

For more than two decades, Barbara Silverstein has studied work-related injuries. Among her many subjects have been nurses, meatpackers, truckers, foundry workers, autoworkers, poultry processors and loggers.
So was she happy when the federal government decided to sponsor a two-day symposium on workplace ailments?
Quite the contrary.

Afghans' uranium levels spark alert
Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/27/2007 - 23:02.A small sample of Afghan civilians have shown "astonishing" levels of uranium in their urine, an independent scientist says. He said they had the same symptoms as some veterans of the 1991 Gulf war.
But he found no trace of the depleted uranium (DU) some scientists believe is implicated in Gulf War syndrome.
Other researchers suggest new types of radioactive weapons may have been used in Afghanistan.
The scientist is Dr Asaf Durakovic, of the Uranium Medical Research Center (UMRC) based in Washington DC.
