The <b><font color="red">Institut für Medizinische Soziologie</font>, Klinikum der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität </b> was founded in 1973. Its scientific work concerns itself with the analysis of the relationship of medicine and society. The social, economic and political relationships within medicine as well as the relationship between medicine and the social whole are unravelled in research and teaching. There is theoretical and empirical work in relation to historic contexts and links with society. The special and the general has to be conveyed. After all, the influence of medicine on the laws of socialisation determines its social character. In this context the accompanying critical reflection on social power relationships, social structures and political authority gains its specific meaning.
