Asociación Latina para el Analisis de los Sistemas de Salud, ALASS está fundada sobre la hipótesis de que existe una cultura latina. Ésta se caracteriza en la manera de percibir la calidad de vida, los comportamientos en materias de prevención de las enfermedades, la utilización de los servicios de salud, etc... Esta cultura común recoge al mismo tiempo las peculiaridades nacionales, regionales o locales. El descubrimiento de estas características comunes facilita la comprensión de los problemas particulares de los diferentes países latinos y las soluciones que se adaptan a los sistemas de salud de estos países. ALASS promueve un acercamiento pluridisciplinar para resolver estos problemas sociosanitarios.

Its scientific work concerns itself with the analysis of the relationship of medicine and society. The social, economic and political relationships within medicine as well as the relationship between medicine and the social whole are unravelled in research and teaching. There is theoretical and empirical work in relation to historic contexts and links with society. The special and the general has to be conveyed. After all, the influence of medicine on the laws of socialisation determines its social character.
