The IAHP is a scientific, political and cultural organization founded
in 1977. It is an international network of scholars with the aim of
promoting the scientific analysis of public health issues and a forum
for international comparisons and debate on health policy issues.
The Association is interdisciplinary and gathers researchers from public health disciplines like social medicine, environmental and occupational health, epidemiology, medical sociology, health policy research, medical anthropology and health economics. A major subject is the interrelationship between theory and practice in health policy. The IAHP members consider health as a social good and a citizen's right and the main goals of the Association are the fight against health inequalities and the promotion of social solidarity The main activity is regular conferences and seminars. These meetings cover a broad range of issues and they often gather both researchers and people involved in practical public health work and health policy. It has also been a major concern of the dialogue between Notrh and South, East and West. IAHP is organizing it's international conferences every two years in locations alternating between the Americas and Europe. The coordinating bodies of the Association are elected every two years during the conferences, and consist of a President, a vise President, an executive board and an advisory board. Conferences are organized with the collaboration of the governing bodies with the local organizers. |
